Elvin Bishop - Red Dog Speaks
Contest winners: Christine Groce (Columbus, OH), Emily Heinzelman (Santa Rosa, CA), Delilah Vela (Roanoke, IN)
Listen: Many Rivers To Cross
When Elvin Bishop moved to Chicago from Tulsa in 1960, it was ostensibly to study physics at the University of Chicago, but he was really there to learn the blues, knowledge he shows to good effect on Red Dog Speaks, out June 15th from Delta Groove. The album marks 45 years of his recording career. One of Bishop's most important teachers in the ways of blues guitar was Little Smokey Smothers, who became a lifelong friend. Smothers, a Mississippi native, had also arrived in Chicago as a teen, in 1956, and was soon playing with the likes of Otis Rush and Howlin' Wolf. Bishop recalls meeting him at the Blue Flame "around the corner from Muddy Waters' house. He was a full-grown musician, and I was just starting out. He was nice enough to take me under his wing." Some of Smothers' teaching methods were unorthodox. "If I wasn't concentrating," Bishop says, "he'd have a pot of beans or ham hocks or something really good cooking. He'd take me in the kitchen and lift up the lid and he'd say, 'Smell this.' And I'd say, 'Oh wow, that smells great!' and then he'd say, 'When you get this song right, you can have some!'" Needless to say, Bishop did, going on to play with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and becoming a solo star in his own right.

Steve Palmer Band - Apparition
Contest winners: Michelle Kelgard (Truckee, CA), Brian Metzger (Albany, OR), Stephen Levy (Bethesda, MD)
Listen: Apparition
SPB carries the proud tradition of such heartland rock trailblazers as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and others into the new millennium. Music fans enjoyed their first taste of SPB during the bands recent dates opening for Bob Schneider. Singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist Steve Palmer creates music for aficionados of intelligent, big-hearted, hook-filled American music. He is backed by a crew of seasoned players with a collective century of studio and concert experience: background vocalist Vicki Hampton, bassist Anthony Setola, lead guitarist Bryan Ewald, drummer Tony Morro and Hammond B-3 organist/pianist Larry Hall. Apparition was recorded live off the floor with minimal overdubs at Nashville’s Blackbird Studios, the ground zero recording facility for the city’s rock community thanks to fellow habitués like Kings of Leon and Jack White. It was co-produced by SPB and producer, songwriter and drummer David Huff (a former member of the group Giant) and mixed by recording veteran Jim Ebert (Butch Walker, Jason Falkner, Cowboy Mouth, SR 71).

Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere - Midnight Flyer
Listen: I Can't Stand It
Contest winner: Alecia Gibson (Janesville, MN)
Steve Cropper, guitarist for Booker T. and the MGs and one of the primary architects of the unmistakable Stax sound of the 1960s, and vocalist/keyboardist Felix Cavaliere, the voice of the Rascals and the pivotal figure in the blue-eyed soul movement of that same era, have reconvened for their second collaborative recording. The album has a range of styles and shades, from heartfelt ballads like “When You’re With Me” to the soul-charged “I Can’t Stand It,” a churning vocal duet featuring Cavaliere and his daughter Aria. “Sexy Lady” harkens back to the soul stylings of the ’70s, while the funky instrumental “Do It Like This” digs into a tight groove and makes plenty of room for Cropper’s tasty riff work to close out the set.

Keller Williams - Thief
Keller Williams has released his first-ever all-covers collection, amusingly titled Thief. The album offers up Keller-versions of songs by an [almost] unthinkable collection of artists: from Amy Winehouse (“Rehab”) to the Grateful Dead (“Mountains of the Moon”), the Butthole Surfers (“Pepper”) to Kris Kristofferson (“Don’t Cuss That Fiddle,” which opens the album, and “The Year 2003 Minus 25,” which closes the album). The set is filled out with tunes by Ryan Adams, the Presidents of the United States of America, the Raconteurs, Patterson Hood, Danny Barnes, Cracker, the Yonder Mountain String Band and Marcy Playground. All over the place, indeed, but that’s the way Williams likes it.

Craig Maher - Propel
Contest winners: David Birmingham (Fairfield, CA), Susan Nielsen (Mount Vernon, WA), Melissa Vo (Pittsburg, PA)
Listen: Propel
A fixture in the Metropolitan rock scene for the past ten years, Craig Maher coins his music, “Cosmic Contemporary”; a style that simply draws from his diverse musical background and influences that range from the Cosmic: the best of the 60's and the early 70's rock scene and its ties to Eastern music, Mysticism, and spirituality; and the Contemporary: anthemic rock championed by artists such as U2, David Bowie and Lenny Kravitz. This album should appeal to fans of the major guitar rock zeniths from the last four decades, ranging from the psychedelic explosion of the Woodstock era, to the riff-oriented glam and grunge scenes of the late 80s and early 90s, all with a contemporary edge that sits fittingly in the modern rock landscape.

Paul McCartney - Good Evening New York City
Contest winner: Mike Kuhl (Mishawaka, IN)
The shows were performed on the same hallowed ground that The Beatles, in 1965, played the 34-minute show that would set the precedent for the modern day stadium rock show--and where in 2008 McCartney joined Billy Joel for the final rock show before the original stadium's demolition. As documented on Good Evening New York City, "I'm Down" from the 1965 set list was revived for the Citi Field shows, albeit this time played through a PA that was not overpowered by screaming fans (though there were still several thousand who tried). Other highlights of Good Evening New York City include faithful takes on Beatles classics "Drive My Car," "Got To Get You Into My Life," "The Long And Winding Road," "Blackbird," "Eleanor Rigby," "Back In The USSR," "Paperback Writer," "Let It Be," "Hey Jude," "Helter Skelter" and more, plus "Something" rendered on ukulele gifted to Paul by George Harrison, and a tribute to John Lennon in the form of a medley of "A Day In The Life" and "Give Peace A Chance." Wings era chestnuts include “Band On The Run," "My Love," "Let Me Roll It" and the pyrotechnic tour de force of "Live And Let Die," while timeless McCartney solo material ranges from "Here Today" to the upbeat "Flaming Pie" and "Dance Tonight" to a pair of numbers from Electric Arguments, the 2008 album released under the alias of The Fireman. The set will come in a standard (2 CD + 1 DVD) or 4 disc deluxe (2 CD + 2 DVD) edition.

The LA Times declared, "Cotton brings a freshness to the soul-rock formula, not to mention a contagious fervor that is near irresistible," and the Chicago Tribune concurred: "Cotton's raspy holler atop such tightly messy hard rock is genuinely funky stuff, like a cross between Thin Lizzy and Sly Stone."

Zerobridge - There We Were, Now Here We Are
Listen: 2mins5
The EP includes six tracks reflecting the musical journey the band has been on for the last 4 years – careening between the fury of a politically motivated track like “TWA,” a Replacements-esque rocker like “There We Were, Now Here We Are,” and a moving ballad like “Venus In Arms” (a fan favorite – included on the EP almost completely because of the fans’ insistence). The first single “2mins5” (pronounced two-minutes-five) is a punchy pop-rock gem, rounding up the likes of U2, New Order, The Clash and others and making them all comfortably sit together within the constraints of two minutes and thirty-nine seconds. Completing the song cycle of the EP are “How Long,” with its sing-along chorus fans join in on at every show, and “It Is What It Is,” the perfect down tempo compliment to wrap up the EP and make you want to start the journey all over again from the beginning.

Nick Cave - The Death of Bunny Munro
Contest winner: Karrie Millheim (Cape Coral, FL)
Twenty years after the publication of his first novel, Nick Cave brings us the final days of Bunny Munro, a salesman in search of a soul. Set adrift by his wife’s suicide and struggling to keep some sort of grasp on reality, Bunny Munro drives off in his yellow Fiat Punto, Bunny Jr. in tow. To his son, waiting patiently in the car while he peddles beauty wares and quickies to lonely housewives in the south of England, Bunny is a hero, larger than life. But Bunny himself seems to have only a dim awareness of his son’s existence, viewing his needs as a distraction from the relentless pursuit of sex, alcohol, and drugs. When his bizarre road trip shades into a final reckoning, Bunny realizes that the revenants of his world—decrepit fathers, vengeful ghosts, jealous husbands, and horned psycho-killers—lurk in the shadows, waiting to exact their toll. At turns dark and humane—and with all the mystery and enigma fans will recognize as Cave’s singular vision—The Death of Bunny Munro questions the nature of sin and redemption, and lays bare the imprints that fathers leave on their sons.

Ana Popovic - Blind For Love
MP3: Nothing Personal
Contest winners: Joe Kershenbaum (Lowell, MA), Jennelle Henderson (Glendora, CA), Mike Avant (Birmingham, AL)
The Yugoslavian-born, Netherlands-based Popoviæ, was first introduced to the blues through her father’s extensive record collection and sessions hosted at the family home. Popoviæ founded her first serious band at age nineteen, and within a year, she was playing outside of Yugoslavia and opening shows for American blues icons like Junior Wells. By 1998, her band was doing 100 shows annually and appearing regularly on Yugoslavian television. Her debut CD, Hometown, provided a first glimpse of her talents as a singer and guitarist. In 1999, Popoviæ relocated to the Netherlands to study jazz guitar. She quickly became a fixture on the Dutch blues scene and soon ventured into neighboring Germany. With Comfort to the Soul (2003), Popoviæ delivered another diverse package of blues, rock, soul and jazz, earning her comparisons to artists such as Susan Tedeschi, Sue Foley, and Bonnie Raitt. Her career shows no signs of slowing down. With Blind For Love, Ana continues to march forward and carry on the tradition of her father, her roots, and her true love of the music she was destined to play.

Contest winners: Shirley Thompson (Houston, TX), Susan Alles (Rio Rancho, NM), Valerie Mabrey (Marion, OH), Kobi Hendrix (Gresham, OR), Mark Carroll (Myrtle Beach, SC)
MP3: Superhero
Nominated for a 2008 National Blues Foundation Award for Best Blues Contemporary Female (the highest honor for blues artists) and beating down pancreatic cancer the same year, Kane is one tough cookie. Hailing from East LA and raised in a dysfunctional, blue-collar family, Candye became a teenage mother, a pin-up cover girl, and a punk rock, hillbilly, and blues-belting anarchist by the time she was just 21 years old. Eight albums, six record labels, millions of international road miles, and countless awards later, Miss Kane has proven to be a true survivor as she scrambled her way to the top of the roots music heap, creating a world renowned reputation that has spanned two decades. A colorful mixture of the traditional and the eclectic, Kane cut her musical teeth in the early 80’s performing with the likes of Social Distortion, Dwight Yoakum, Dave Alvin, The Blasters, X, Fear and Los Lobos, to name a few.

Funny People stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in the story of a famous comedian who has a near-death experience and what happens when the other side isn’t at all what you expect. The soundtrack features songs from three of the Beatles, including Lennon’s acoustic version of “Watching the Wheels,” Paul McCartney’s “Great Day” and Ringo Starr’s “Photograph” (co-written with George Harrison). Also, a pair of tracks from Warren Zevon, “Keep Me In Your Heart” and “Numb as a Statue,” from his 2003 album The Wind, which came out just two weeks before his own death from cancer. Lennon’s “Watching the Wheels,” from his 1980 Grammy-winning Album of the Year, Double Fantasy with Yoko Ono, came out several months after his tragic murder. Adam Sandler contributes a pair of songs, including a cover of a 1977 John Lennon song, “Real Love” and the humorous “George Simmons Soon Must Be Gone.” Jason Schwartzman’s band, Coconut Records, is also represented with a pair of psychedelic British Invasion-inspired songs in “Wires” and “I Am Young,” while Judd’s daughter Maude, who also appeared in Knocked Up, offers an impressive performance of “Memory” from Cats. The album is rounded out with an early Neil Diamond take on “We,” and Robert Plant and the Strange Sensations’ “All The King’s Horses”.

Astronauts of Antiquity - Rocket Science For Dummies
Contest winners: David Basile (Valley Stream, NY), Angela Bryant (Panama City, FL), Kathy Pease (West Rutland, VT)
Although this album has been out for a while, it still deserves a mention. Their brand of varied eclecticism has garnered them comparisons to Zero 7, Thievery Corporation, and Bitter:sweet and tags ranging from “urban-electro-organica,” to a “jazzy, neo-soulful, electronic exploration." Yeah, it's like that. The album showcases AoA’s eclecticism and their ability to bridge club and lounge music with dub, trance, electronica, jazzy neo-soul, while still retaining listener-friendly pop hooks and sensibility. You can hear it from the first notes of the album opener, “Everywhere,” with its luscious, loungy vibe and India’s powerful yet subtle vocals enveloping the track. It’s present in “Beautiful Fate,” where India’s smoky, seductive vocals mingle with emotionally affecting lyrics and a hypnotic melody and rhythm track that brings to mind Kid A-era Radiohead.

Daughtry - Leave This Town
Listen: No Surprises
Many of the songs from LEAVE THIS TOWN, Chris Daughtry says, reflect how where we've been determines where we're going, including the first single "No Surprise". "The place you call home can cause heartbreak just like a bad relationship," Chris says. "Places change just like people change. Sometimes the best thing you can do is leave." The album's title comes from a line in "September," a new song Daughtry co-wrote. The bittersweet ballad draws on the singer's experiences growing up with his brother in a tiny North Carolina town. "Every time I hear that song it takes me back to my summers in Lasker," he says. "I loved growing up there, but I knew I'd have leave to make something of my life." The entire album features inspired performances by the quintet held together by anthemic hooks, impassioned vocals, and lyrics laced with wisdom found through searching horizons and rearviews. The songs shift smoothly from powerful arena-rock ("No Surprise," "Ghost of Me"), to hushed ballads ("September") and emotional mid-tempo rockers ("Life After You," "Learned My Lesson"). LEAVE THIS TOWN also includes the country-influenced "Tennessee Line," a track Daughtry co-wrote that features vocal harmonies by country-music superstar Vince Gill.

"It's a bit of a random mish mash. I honestly wanted it all to come out, and not harness it, not manipulate it. I just wanted it to be organic, and so immediate it's in your face and you can't help but take it all in." The first single from the 22-year-old's new release is "Candy" - a heart tugging ballad written after an argument with his girlfriend, when it suddenly occurred to him that the fault lay with him.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Demos
Listen: Listening Party
Contest winner: Buddy Garrett (Jefferson, GA)
This album is behind-the-scenes look at the group's early days with a collection of 12 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1968 and 1971. While many demos feature members performing solo, the opening cut includes all three harmonizing on the Nash-penned hit "Marrakesh Express," recorded four months before the release of the trio's eponymous debut in 1969. Crosby and Stills can be heard on another song from that blockbuster album, "Long Time Gone." The two recorded the demo in June 1968, just a few weeks before Nash joined the group. Neil Young, whose arrival in 1969 launched CSN&Y, performs with Crosby and Nash on "Music Is Love," a song the three cowrote that appeared on Crosby's 1971 solo debut. Crosby flies his "freak flag" alone on the anthemic "Almost Cut My Hair," a track featured on the group's 1970 #1 album Déjà Vu. Stills performs unaccompanied on a 1968 demo of "My Love Is A Gentle Thing." Recorded in 1968, the song was never released on a studio album, although a 1975 recording of the track did surface in 1991 on the boxed set CSN. More than half of CROSBY, STILLS & NASH DEMOS comprises early versions of songs destined for solo projects that each member focused on following the success of Déjà Vu.

New York Dolls - ‘Cause I Sez So
Listen: Listening Party
After working together on the New York Dolls' influential debut in 1973, the group reunited with producer Todd Rundgren this winter to record their fourth studio album, 'Cause I Sez So. Recorded at Utopia Sound Studio in Kauai, Hawaii, the album features 11 original compositions and a new version of "Trash," which was on their 1973 debut album. "It was amazing working with Todd again, and I think we were able to evoke the special sound of our first album and drag it by the hair into the present," says frontman David Johansen. The New York Dolls swaggered onto the New York music scene in the early '70s, influencing a generation with its subversive mix of high-decibel rock and high-heeled androgyny. The original band recorded a pair of milestone records -- New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974) -- before breaking up in 1977. The surviving members reformed the group in 2004 to much acclaim, but soon lost bassist Arthur Kane to leukemia. Two years later, Johansen and Sylvain reunited again to record the New York Dolls' third studio album, One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This.

Heaven And Hell - The Devil You Know

Contest winners: Doug Kubr (Lincoln, NE), Buddy Garrett (Jefferson, GA)
After finishing several heralded world tours as Heaven & Hell last summer, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice were tighter than ever before, both musically and personally. Agreeing that it would be a shame to stop making music together at tours end, the quartet began writing, first in England at Iommi's home studio and later in Los Angeles at Dio's studio. "The band had gotten too good to just walk away," Dio says. "We wanted to show people that we were still capable of giving them new music that measured up to what we'd done in the past." With that goal in mind, the band once again converged on Rockfield Studios in Wales last winter, the same place they used 17 years earlier to record their last album, Dehumanizer. The result is the long awaited new album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, featuring 10 soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted version of Black Sabbath.

Simon And Garfunkel - Live 1969
Contest winner: Carol Stryker (La Crescent, MN)
When Simon & Garfunkel went out on the road in November of 1969 on what would be their last tour together for 13 years, the duo’s popularity rivaled that of the Beatles. They embarked on the tour soon after completing Bridge Over Troubled Water, the album that would be their crowning glory and biggest seller, but it wouldn’t be released until January 21, 1970, so their sets contained several songs from that album that the fans who packed their shows would be hearing for the first time. Several shows on the ’69 tour were recorded in anticipation of what was earmarked to be their sixth album, the follow-up to Bridge. That live LP never came to be (until now, that is); in fact, there was no follow-up of any kind, mainly because Simon and Garfunkel were in the final months of their partnership. Interestingly, the 17 previously unreleased performances contained on Live 1969 bear no trace of the acrimony that was thought to have accrued as they neared their breakup; all that can be sensed is the comfortable vibe of buddies enjoying the familiar task of working together.

Green River Ordinance - Out Of My Hands
Listen: Come On | Goodbye LA
Watch: Come On | Video Podcast
Contest winners: Andrew Gordon (Reminderville, OH), Mike Rogers (Columbia, MO)
Regional fame landed the band opening slots with artists such as Bon Jovi, Collective Soul, Bowling For Soup, Simple Plan and many others, earning this young band (which formed in high school) the onstage experience and poise of a veteran act. Out Of My Hands builds on the strengths that got the debut album noticed, with accessible, hook-laden songs suitable for cruisingwindows down and radio blaring. Reminiscent of arena-ready, larger-than-life rock bands, Green River Ordinance blends emotive vocals, guitars-to-11 and anthemic choruses to deliver moments certain to move crowds, with lighters (or phones) inevitably waving in the air. Whether the song is a slow build (“On Your Own”), a propulsive rocker (the title track), or a driving sing-along (lead single “Come On”), Green River Ordinance apparently are incapable of writing anything without a huge chorus that will stick in listeners’ heads for weeks.

What a ride, but it’s all inter-connected. The difference between track one and track twelve is astonishing, but somehow it works.” “I feel really creative right now,” Block says. “I just like to open up the stream and see what flows out. I’m thrilled with the way that ‘Drift’ came together. I’m more comfortable in my skin than I ever have been before and I think it shows in the music on this record.”

Duncan Sheik - Whisper House
Watch: Earthbound Starlight
Listen: The Album
Contest winner: Valencia Pillion (Seal Rock, OR)
The collection of songs was written for a forthcoming theatrical piece. Whisper House marks Sheik’s first solo album since 2006’s critically-acclaimed White Limousine and comes on the heels of the success of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening for which Sheik collaborated with lyricist Steven Sater and composed an original score. Described by Variety as “the most startling and exciting rock tuner to hit the boards since ‘Rent’,” Spring Awakening won eight Tony awards, with Sheik earning two Tony awards for “Best Orchestration” and “Best Original Score” as well as a Grammy award for “Best Musical Show Album.” But whisper House is just as much a pop record as it is a musical theatre composition. Structured as a melodrama, each of the 10 songs on the album weave together to tell the story of a child’s grief and spinster’s longing as seen through the eyes of the ghosts that haunt the remote, World War II-era Maine lighthouse where they live.

Cuesta Drive - Distractions
Contest winner: Katheline Schmitt (Vail, AZ)
Cuesta Drive has refined their sound with crisp vocal harmonies, precise guitar work, and a solid rhythm section. These songs take their cues from the rock, blues, and soul music of the 60’s and 70’s. Vocally, they look to the harmonies and melodic styling of the Motown era. Other aspects were largely influenced by the lead guitar work of prodigies like Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Page. This refreshing take on “Rock and soul” has proven to be a formula for success as the band acquired a rabid fan base while touring up and down the West coast. Their inevitable regional success led to Distractions, released in January of 2009. The much anticipated sophomore album has undoubtedly put Cuesta Drive on the radar of music industry “insiders” everywhere. Distractions evolves with the help of accredited producers, and collaboration with decorated songwriters and musicians.

This attitude has clearly influenced the dozen tunes on Red Letter Year, which celebrate existence, profess love and tackle thorny political issues with an infectious sense of glee. It's one of Ani's most joyous records to date. And it has been a long time coming. Red Letter Year was sculpted over the course of two years, a period in which Ani continued to hone her songwriting, performing and recording skills, all the while balancing her new role as a mom. "I think I sorely needed to be slowed down, and finally a little person came along powerful enough to do it," Ani reflects. The end result is an album of focused, layered, panoramic music.

The new album was written and recorded over the course of nearly two years, going into the studio whenever inspiration struck. As a result, leader Andrew McMahon describes the album as “a bizarre balance between present and past. I was trying to use the music to sort through and reconcile with the adversity of my past.” While The Glass Passenger is essentially autobiographical, the album is not meant to serve as a direct description of McMahon’s life. “My past is my past and a lot of this record is about that,” he says “but it’s also about trying to write myself out of it. This is a record about trying to get well. It’s about getting out from underneath something. I want people to receive the music for what it is and not have to contextualize it against my own personal battle.”

Tori Amos - Live At Montreux CD/DVD
Watch: Thank You
The performances took place just a year apart from each other in July 1991 and July 1992 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. It is almost like a “before and after” snapshot. The ’91 gig came only months before her Little Earthquakes debut had catapulted her into an instant icon, the ’92 appearance shortly thereafter. The progression in both performance and audience receptivity is appreciable. Material includes most of her stellar debut but also tracks from her indie EPs and some notable covers (Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” and “Thank You” as well as Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”).

B. B. King - One Kind Favor
Watch: EPK
Contest winner: Jennifer Regan (Pleasant Hill, CA)
One Kind Favor, produced by T Bone Burnett, features covers of old blues songs from B.B. King’s early influences. Recorded at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, the album is meant to sound like an album recorded in the 50s. To get this sound Burnett and King replicated the kind of blues band King had back in the day by bringing in some of the greats – Dr. John on piano, Nathan East on stand up acoustic bass and Jim Keltner on drums, to name a few. Studio conditions of the time were reproduced. The result is a vintage sounding album filled with the songs that influenced King in his early days as an artist.

The album will also be released as a 2 LP set including four previously unreleased bonus tracks not available on the CD. For customer convenience, a CD will be included with purchases of the LP.

This is his first full-length album of original studio material in 4 years. He says "I found myself just going out and doing this sort of guerilla guitar quartet thing around the country and around Canada, so when it came time to make a record, I thought maybe I’ll just continue in that vein and write something that is appropriate to the guitar, since the fans seem to be enjoying it so much. So when I decided to write a new album, I knew beforehand it was going to be this kind of old-school guitar-rock record.”

Written after the bitter end of a long-term relationship, the album chronicles a full year of post-breakup experiences. Each track on 12 Angry Months corresponds to a month, and deals with the range of emotions one encounters after love turns sour. Those emotions range from anger (“so, baby could you do me a favor? fall off the earth and i'll see you later”), to jealousy (“this is crazy, I can’t believe that you replaced me”), to acceptance (“you knew we’d never make it anyway”). Highly regarded for their powerful sound and unique two-man lineup with Scott Lucas on vocals and guitar and Brian St. Clair on drums, Local H is known for derisive lyrics, heavy guitars and feedback, energetic live shows, and an active relationship with their fans. The band performs regularly, and will be on tour nationally in 2008.

Carly Simon - This Kind Of Love
Contest winner: Joan Rodberg (Oxnard, CA)
Her first album of all-original songs in eight years, This Kind of Love ranks among Simon’s most personal albums as well as one of her most stylistically diverse excursions with songs ranging from gorgeous melodies to driving rhythms. The CD is co-produced by Simon, Frank Filipetti and Jimmy Webb who also wrote or co-wrote most of the arrangements. The three first teamed up for Film Noir, Simon’s album of standards that Webb produced in 1997. The musical inspiration of this CD comes from Simon’s fascination with Brazilian music, whose rhythms are subtly infused throughout.

Love - Forever Changes (2CD collector's edition)
Regarded as the L.A.-based psychedelic folk-rock pioneers' finest achievement, Love's FOREVER CHANGES is sometimes compared to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Pet Sounds. The third and final album by the original Love lineup remains a timeless musical experience four decades after its Elektra release. Produced by band cofounder Arthur Lee and The Doors' engineer/producer Bruce Botnick, the visionary album weaves a rich tapestry of sound as Lee's quavering voice delivers lyrics that are both enigmatic and poetic as he is backed by the band's gorgeous melodies and evocative orchestral arrangements. This Collector's Edition of FOREVER CHANGES contains the original 11 songs along with an alternate mix of the album comprised almost entirely of unreleased tracks. The bonus material also includes a trove of unreleased gems culled from the album's recording sessions.

Shannon Noll - Turn It Up
Contest winners: Mark Rootstein (Brooklyn, NY), Daniel Morrell (Weymouth, MA)
This is Shannon’s most dynamic album. From the first hit, Loud, to anthemic rockers like Way Out to heartfelt emotion in Breakdown and In Pieces to unabashed sentiments in soul stirring ballads like Sorry Is Just Too Late and Is You, every song is a showcase for Shannon’s vocal abilities and shows his growth as a songwriter. Shannon was particularly thrilled to work with one of rock music legend Richie Sambora. The two wrote the blistering power ballad, Sorry Is Just Too Late along with producer Luke Ebbin. Richie also played guitar on the track. Richie has nothing but praise for Shannon. “There are very few current artists that embody the great classic vocalists, but have a contemporary flair,” says Richie. “Shannon is that artist.”

Be Your Own Pet - Get Awkward
Get Awkward is the sophomore full-length from Nashville foursome Be Your Own Pet. Making it presented new challenges for Jonas, Jemina, Nathan, and John, and yielded some surprises. The songs remain fast and loud, totally wired and tantalizingly brief. Applying the dubious word "mature" is open for heated debate – string arrangements and soppy ballads are blessedly absent – but the music definitely reflects a sharp increase in experience.

Heavy metal is not for the faint of heart. The songs don't want you to dance, shake, spin, or jump. They insist that you bang your head. Forget nuances or subtlety, heavy metal's main concern is kicking your ass. The Heavy Metal Box presents more than five hours of blistering fury guaranteed to send devil horn salutes in the air.
